For you folks who don't know please try Viva Mexico. I have only gone once but every plate we have had has
been delicious and the opportunity to try some pre-hispanic food is an outstanding thing!! If the menu is a
little brave for you try there normal menu. The Viva Mexico combo plate for 75P is excellent. Not sure if
regular menu is served on this special day but try it sometime. The owner is very gracious and the environment
is excellent. Take the bus to San Juan to the second big tower on the left side of the road going west. The
first tower is much closer to Ajijic than the second tower which is right next to the road. Cross the street and
go down to the main block and make a right and walk til the resturant on the right side of the road. After dinner
walk down to the Malicon and walk to the east you will connect back up to a road and eventually be by the
baths. Walk up to the carraterra and pick up the bus home.

A delighful day!!

Z

P.S. Chicken in rose sauce was very good also.

I found out a little more today:

It's a special pre-hispanic menu this Friday from 12 noon to 10pm. He is making special dishes to honor a friend who is movining - back to the US I believe. The friend had a restaurant in Guadalajara where he
made this type of food (pre-hispanic). He said the total price with drink,
appetizer, entree, salad, a few other things and chocolate something for desert for either 200 or 250 pesos (hasn't figured out his cost yet). He said in his friend's restaurant he usually charged 600 pesos for a meal like this.

Any way - I didn't know what it was about either and now we know - friend
leaving - special dinner menu.

Any one want to reserve a table you can email Augustin at:
aguscosala@hotmail.com

The food is excellent and very reasonably priced. The owner, Agustin, is a local hero in SJC. For those of you that were here during the waterspout or whatever it was that started in Raquet Club and flowed down into SJC, a few years ago, Agustin served literally thousands of folks free meals from his restaurant that had become homeless or were volunteering to help homeless folks. I was there on another day, which Agustin said was Mexican National Reading Day. He suggested that maybe us gringos would like to come back another day. Hell, no. We went in and watched close to a hundred kids, who had read their books, give a brief summary of their book, receive free refrescos and botanas, plus an additional gift.

This man is wonderful and the food that he serves is the best Mexican food in all of Lakeside.

Yup, I am a bit biased, as I admire the hell out of Agustin. Great guy and great food.

T.

A friend just posted this on another group:

"I just talked to Augustine and his cousin, Diego. I didn't know that Diego
started the restaurant No. 4 in Ajijic. This meal could really be something
special. I'm looking forward to it."

I think you misread - Diego started at #4, not started it.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm getting the information second hand from a friend. In any event a group of us are going at 2pm. Should be an interesting meal!

I thought it was owned by a Canadian woman but a friend mentioned Diego and we couldn't figure out where Diego came in. Thanks for the clarifications. I didn't want to bother Augustin - I know he has his hands full preparing for today.

Experience posted on another thread. It was wonderful - can't believe a meal like this took place in San Juan Cosala.

I finally got the correct story. Number 4 was started by a Canadian woman and Deigo - the master chef of tonight's meal was her first chef (at least that is the story I got:-)

He is leaving for (I believe it is Kansas City) to open a restaurant. Not real sure I got the city straight after a few tequila drinks and an after dinner drink brought by a friend.

But the meal was magnificent!
