Direct Flights to Canada

Can't Post | Private Reply
One of my students wants to visit Canada. He can qualify for a Canadian visa but probably not a USA visa, so he needs a direct flight from somewhere in México to somewhere in Canada. Suggestions?

There should be plenty of direct flight options from Canada to D.F. or tourist locations like Cancun. A domestic flight (or bus) to D.F. should give him some options. Have him hop onto the internet and check the route maps for Air Canada.

Depending on where he would like to go in Canada, there are a couple of options that I know of. AIR CANADA has direct flights from Mexico City to/from Toronto or Montreal and I believe some direct flights to/from select resort areas like Cancun. If he want to head for the west coast of Canada (Vancouver), then probably the best options are out of PV or certain other resorts.

Thanks to all. AC flies directly to Vancouver from DF.
Vancouver is his likely destination because he wants to visit the ranching country. He's a Veterinary student.

Ranching country? I suppose he could go to the interior of BC but he would be better served going to Alberta.

BC=Washington

Calgary=Texas,Montana, etc.

I believe there is a direct flight to Calgary as well.

Vancouver is a fabulous city though.

There is also a very good airline called Westjet that flies into many of the vacation sites.

They can be checked out on the web.

Hello Rolly,

Rolly you and or he might want to check a little more thoroughly about HAVING to travel direct without stopping or changing planes in the USA to visit Canada. Several Major Hubs allow for "in transit" passenger areas without crossing immigration or customs areas. He might do well to go to the computer to the various airports such as Dallas, Houston, Chicago, etc., and see if any of these airports have such a possibility. Many airport sites have a terminal map that give a good indication of such "in transit" areas and if they don't, one can always call or e mail the various carriers and or airport managers and ask them if this or that airport have such an "in Transit" area. I have personally traveled that way in the past, through other countries headed to a final (different) country. Just a thought.

robt:

That was one of my first thoughts when I saw Rolly's OP. Upon further checking, Homeland Security knocked out that practice some time back and anyone landing in the US must have a visa. No more in-transit lounges for non-visa holders according to some info that I read.

That's right. No more transit holding pens. One of the more stupid "security" ideas.
That matter is often discussed on the Thorn Tree Mexico web board

Hi Rolly,

OK, Sorry about that Rolly. I hate flying. Is it possible that he could catch an Air Canada Flight and land in say New York and just wait on the plane? That used to be a possibility also. Maybe that is also out the window now. Oh Well. Being Canadian Rolly I can tell you that certainly Calgary, Alberta and Northern BC are the areas of beef cattle production. If he is more interested in Dairy and Horses then Calgary the terrain is also a little like Northern Mexico. I would suggest Calgary Alberta to be your students best bet. They also have Hostels in Canada and they are very inexpensive places to overnight. Just Google Canadian Hostels.

You might also have him check this site of the Canadian Cattleman's Association and see if maybe he can get to visit some cattle operations there. Most folks will probably house him and feed him for a very little work if any at all. Just have him write a little about himself and why he is going to Canada and if it would be possible to visit there ranch. Maybe be a really great opportunity for him. http://www.cattle.ca/...s-provincial-members

Mexicana used to fly direct to Vancouver and it was a great flight. Now my choice is WestJet which flies direct from PV to Vancouver. I fly from Guad. to PV then pick up the WestJet flight which leaves at 4 pm. I am on the ground in Vancouver at 8:10 pm (five hour flight with 1 hour time difference). Works well and WestJet is a great airline with wonderful service and good pricing. I know WestJet also has direct flights to Victoria in B.C. and to Calgary in Alberta. Probably has one to Toronto as well.

From Puerto Vallarta there are many non-stops to Canada on WestJet, Air Transat, Air Canada, Sun Wing and others. Prices are often excellent to Canada especially on WestJet.

After viewing the above video, WestJet might be the preferred mode of travel.

WestJet have always been known for having a sense of humour as well as aggressive pricing. I haven't flown with them for a while, but I did when they first started operating. Flights then featured virtual stand-up routines by flight attendants, bowling in the aisles and bingo.

One thing that spurs them on to exceptional service is that all employees become shareholders very early in their tenure with the company.

Rolly, Westjet, Airtransat and Air Canada fly direct but mostly during the tourist season. Mexicana I believe stopped in Vancouver en route to Asia. Vancouver is one beautiful city - go there if possible. The other advantage of direct flights being only one security screening.
Good luck and I hope he/ she enjoys themself.
