Do I need a Mexican Drivers License to legally drive a Mexican plated car? I live in the state of Veracruz and I am thinking about buying a new car. Veracruz motor vehicle tells me that they only issue 6 month drivers licenses to foreigners, with or without FM3. The reason being to give you enough time to return to your home state and get a new drivers license. The concerns that I have are insurance coverage and giving the traffic cops another reason to shake me down for mordidas.
You get a Permiso Para Conducir if you have an FM-3. With an FM-2, you get an license. The state automobile laws don't state this, but it's no use arguing with them about it. I have know FM-3 holders who got a license, but their fluency in Spanish was better than mine. _______ My desire to be well-informed is currently at odds with my desire to remain sane.
I'm am going to get a "camposino de america" sticker on a small SUV I own. To have it legalized it will cost over $2000 USD but the sticker will cost about $700 pesos a year. Do I need a drivers license for this?
I understood, maybe erroneously, that such programs are only for Mexican citizens. You might want to double check, unless, of course, you are a citizen.
