Details on today's Guasave ambush

If the media reports are accurate, there has been a recent string of skirmishes in and around Guasave, Culiacan culminating today in what is being labeled a "massacre" somewhere in or near Guasave. Apparently, a "convoy" of police special forces were escorting two prisoners to Culiacan and were ambushed by 20 cars. Reportedly, 7 officers, and 3 others, were killed while driving back from Los Mochis. Seems that no innocent bystanders were killed, as of this point. 1200 shell casings found. Reports suggest this occured on Mex 15, possibly the toll road. I'm curious if anyone has received confirmation of these early media reports. And yes, I well know the media tendency to "hyper-hype" this stuff, but the majority of bad incidences I've had in Mexico over the years took place very near Guasave. I'm driving through there in 2 days to Puerto Vallarta, north of which there was a human head strung up on the main road just north of town. After 20 yrs of driving down there, even I'm starting to think twice. Any other beta out there?

Yes, they all seem consistent w/this site. BTW, I did not mean to initiate anti-Mexico hysteria or rants, which I think are bunk. This just seems a particularly brazen incident on what might be the main road along the Pacific Coast which I'm sure many readers of this site have driven often. I'm still curious if it happened directly on the Mex 15 quota, or some ancillary highway.

Not only does that seem to have been a very intense and determined attack, it seems like a heckuva lot of security to transport two prisoners. My first thought was to think they must have been very high value prisoners. Seems likely there was an inside tip off for the gangs to have that kind of ambush ready.

According to this article, it did occur on Highway 15, in the southbound lane, near San José de Guayparime.

There are not a lot of details in this report, other than that 7 agents died, traveling in three vehicles, apparently a surprise attack.

The following report says 10 people died, 7 agents, 2 criminals, and a civilian. They were transporting two criminals. Apparently there was a convoy of vehicles making the attack, some parked, some on the highway.
