hog ring?

Anyone know the Spanish term for this "hog ring", and whether it can be found at a ferreteria without too much trouble?

It's used, among other things, for attaching fabric or mesh to a supporting wire framework.

Take one with you to the ferretería and tell them, "Quisiera un gancho de este tipo, por favor. Y me puede decir el nombre que tiene?" In different regions, the same item is called by different names. What that hook is called in Sonora may not be what it's called in Mexico City or Chiapas. We don't know where you are.

Somehow I got my answer sent as a pm, so here it is in the open:

Just a suggestion, but "una grapa" might be a better description than "un gancho", since it's a lot more like a recurved, sharpened staple than like a hook.

sparks, These babies are tough! I sure wouldn't want to try to make one myself. There are even specially made pliers that are used just to squeeze them closed. In real life, they are about the same size as the illustration shows on my monitor screen. Once squeezed closed, they make a really, really strong closed ring about 1/2" across.

Mazbook is close. They are grapas anilladas and even sometimes called grapas hog ring.

We use them for assembling polystyrene panels with a pneumatic gun. Don't know about your run of the mill ferreteria, I buy them from the panel supplier.

¡Perfecto! I have the pliers. Was hoping to use them for a quick way to attach stucco mesh to an armature of welded-wire 6x6 mesh for some curved thin-shell concrete surfaces. Lots less time than twisting tie-wire.

I would expect any upholstery shop (tapicera) would have tons of them ...and likely the pliers too.
