Mazatlan hotel

I'm heading north to Tucson and figure I stop at Mazatlan and Navojoa before crossing at Nogales. I know there is a Best Western at Navoja that is often recommended by travelers using Hwy 15. In Mazatlan I want to avoid going down to the beach area and while here in PV was told by someone who use to drive that road that there is a Hotel called Papala(?) that sits at a major intersection in Mazatlan behind a large Pemex with truck parking in front of the hotel. It would be on my side of the road heading north. Does anyone know if it still there. How about any other hotels right on 15 in Mazatlan area?

I could drive further north that first day but it doesn't appear to any place to stay until you reach Culiacan Are there any of those No-Tell hotels in the Mazatlan area?

I haven't read of any major problems driving that route lately.

We have stayed at that hotel in Mazatlan, for the same reason you are considering it. It was basic and clean - it's really a truck stop hotel. Be warned that you will have to search for a meal in that area - there was nothing at the hotel when we were there.

When we used to travel back & forth from Phoenix to Mazatlan almost monthly, we used to stay at the "discreet/no-tell" motels. They accepted our dog, the rates were quite reasonable, they are very secure, food is delivered right to your room & they are extremely clean. There are several between the airport turnoff and town or on the other side of town there are 2 or 3 more. Good luck!
