"Agents" may be misleading... apparently these were "informants" for the U.S. secret police agencies, not foreign secret police operating in Mexico.

You're right. The term "dedo" in Mexican slang refers to snitches or informants.

Likewise the word "agent" connotes a person who acts on behalf of something or someone else. Mario, who is the first person listed under the comments section had it right " I heard it was informants, local police, politicians, narcs snitching for the FBI". They weren't FBI agents but were acting on their behalf.

I would bet u that there is at least 150 US federal agents in Guadalajara alone, DEA, Customs, ATF, FBI, along with US Military
