First, thanks for everyone's good advice prior to and during my solo trip. This is a great forum! I crossed at Reynosa in early December. One slimy migra dude followed me around and kept saying for a mordita of $60 he could make getting my visa and car pass much easier. I ignored him and easily managed the task on my own. My route was Monterrey/San Luis de Potosi/SMA/Queretaro/DF/Oaxaca/San Cristobal/Tapachula. I crossed into Guatemala 3 days before Xmas which is something I'd never do again in a car before a major holiday. It was total chaos, and all the touts were desperate for money. ONE guy was issuing car permits......I crossed back into Tapachula a week later and the border was quiet and quick. I followed Hwy 200 all the way to Vallarta for New Year's. On to Tequila/Jerez/Zacatecas/Copper Canyon. Crossed at Ojinaga without a problem. It was a total problem-free trip. I have an open truck bed, and nothing was ever stolen. No one harassed me at any checkpoint but all wanted to know where my husband was.....I would love to turn around and do it all over again :) Cathi
