$500 Fee From Notario to Buy a House in Interior of Mexico?

Can't Post | Private Reply
Has anyone heard of such a law that it cost $5,075.00 MX Pesos Federal Secretaria de Relaciones Exteriores for permission for buying a house in Mexico? I know there is a letter of permission required and only a trust can be sought for buying a home within 32 kilometers of the coast (Gulf or Pacific) but I have never heard of such a law that such an amount must be paid to the Immigration department for buying land or a home in the interior of Mexico? Supposedly this is "Artical 10A de la Ley de Inversion extranjera" If this is correct when has this become law?

Foreigners do have to pay such a fee - the figure you quote is a little higher than the fee we paid for each of us, but that was a few years back.

Hi bournemouth,

Thanks for responding. What was the fee that you paid for such a privilege, and what year was it . . .. do you remember?

Thanks Again,

All foreigners must apply for permission to buy property in Mexico no matter where the land/house is located. The notaria applies for the foreigner to obtain "Permiso de Relaciones Exteriores". There is a set fee for this (sorry but I don't have that info) and it is double if the title or trust (fedicomiso) is to be in two names.

Thanks Judy for the response.

I guess I should consider myself lucky that since my spouse is Mexican, she doesn't have to pay that fee. Only me! I always told her that we have 50/50 in all things . . . . now I jokingly tell her for everything except the house which is 49/50! (smiling)

Hey Casa,

Thanks for the ref sites! I sure learned a thing or two or maybe more! Again! The constitution is very interesting. You were correct about Article 27. That's a long one and also touches on the well water subject Rolly was responding to one day. Very Interesting.

Thanks Again,
