What would be a correct way of telling someone "I was teasing you"?
Not teasing like you would tease an animal, but teasing more like joking. Saying "I was joking" doesn't exactly convey the right meaning, I don't think.

Maybe the verb bromear would be appropriate as in estoy bromeando or era broma no mas.

"I was teasing you!" «solo dije para bromearte» or possibly «solo dije para molestarte» My guess would be the latter in México.

Te estaba (yo) dando carilla.
Te estaba (yo) tomando el pelo. (like "pulling your leg" in English)

Or you can use the imperfect or preterite forms of the above.
