Borderland Beat has an article detailing drug activities in Colima.

The most surprising aspect of the assassination of the former Governor of Colima, Jesus Silverio Cavazos, on Sunday the 21st of this month is that a crime of this magnitude had not occurred before. The killing of the former Governor underlines the moral breakdown in Colima, one of the first states to be infected by large drug cartels

Colima authorities were initially quick to deny that the murder was related to drug trafficking but they have now been forced to report the obvious as Mexican Army and Marine units have taken over security in the state capitol.

For years everybody in Colima looked the other way, specifically the state and local governments and also high society who welcomed them with open arms to their social events. They voted in politicians with suspected drug ties in spite of Proceso magazine writing an exposé on them. As a matter of fact that edition never made it to Colima newstands for some strange reason. Now the party is over and Colima society is faced with the hangover.

Nice "Story"... just one bad part in the reporting - the military that has taken to our streets, sealing off neighborhoods while they do house to house searches for narco safe houses for people, weapons and drugs, also the 2 helicopters armed to the teeth flying overheard since Sunday......... have nothing to do with the murder of the ex-governor.

On Sunday a high profile narco was arrested with his entourage of 50 security personel while driving from Manzanillo north towards the capital. They have not released any info yet, except our current governor confirms this and online papers ColimaNoticias.com and Proceso.com both confirmed this report last Monday. Everybody thinks it might be "El Chapo", this is his territory and the only real high profile narco out there, plus there have been many reports of him in the "Golden Triangle" (Barrancas del Cobre) with cavavans of blacked out suburbans (looking like PGR troops) entering and leaving the canyon at will.

Sometime in the last month the military checkpoint just south of the Jalisco border on highway 200 changed personalities from chatty - friendly to 'get out of the car, we are going thru it'. I almost pissed them off being light hearted about it

This 'confirmed' report in El Economista states the drug leader captured last Sunday in Colima by the miltary was 'El Primo', José Luis Calderon Santillon.

He's been flown to Mexico City. Following his capture, the military put a neighbourhood on lock-down, where they raided a number of safe houses, arrested two couples, weapons, etc. Somewhere else read that another drug leader nicknamed "El Mono" was also captured along with El Primo.

The question I'd like answered: Who's HIS cousin?
