It is my understanding that in the ZMG there is only the "drain". This is where EVERYTHING goes, Gray water, black water, rain water everything..... (you will be really unpleasantly surprised if you look into the water situation in the ZMG) Guadalajara rated well below average on a recent list of Green cities in Latin AMerica, part of the reason is its water management policy The ZMG has some definite water issues. * the ZMG dumps more than 10 cubic metres per second of contaminated water (untreated ) into the Rio Santiago (in a day and a half thats more contaminated water being dumped than all the oil from the BP spill) * Now a days if you go to the Barranca outside of Guadalajara you will note that it is a pretty area with about 10 waterfalls and from a far it looks very nice. But as you get closer you will note that these waterfalls are all BLACK WATER, (Aguas Negras) * The ZMG has a water deficit of 4 cubic metres per second and there are hundreds of colonias with out water * There was some talk about storm drains and how rain water would fulfil a very large portion of the water needs of the ZMG. But it was decided that it would be too expensive to implement. Today all of the rain water in the ZMG is lost and absorbed into the ground….. This is probably more info than you wanted but ...... its good to know. (you may want a Big Cisterna if you are in the planning phase)
