apply for CURP online

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hi,

I've read several thread on this topic and there is a lot of misleading information out there. The question is: Is it possible to get the CURP online or not? And if it is where?

I received my FM3 today so I'd like to apply for the number asap.

Thanks,

Daniel

There used to be an online application, but I can't find it now. In any case, I was unable to use it. It required indicating place of birth by choosing from a menu of the Mexican states, with no option for being born outside Mexico. I ended up getting my CURP at a Registro Civil in my town, which only took about 10 minutes.

No you cannot APPLY for a CURP online. Although if you already have a number you can retrieve that number on line.

I agree with Casa. While several websites makeit appear you can get your CURP online, I don't think you can.
Go to the civil registry to get one.

You may already have a CURP number if your INM office is processing things like ours. It seems that CURP numbers are now being assigned by our INM office in Mazatlan, as part of the new process.

How fortunate. I had to wait in line at the Registro Civil about 45 minutes with all my documentation, visa, passport, etc., to be told that I needed IMN to issue something saying I ws OK to be given a CURP number before I could come back and wait in line again to be told the next thing I lack.

When I did get to INM a month or so later to renew my visa it was about a one-and-a-half hour wait, the first of three trips that took even longer because of the new system. Then the guy at the counter argued that I didn't need that number. Eventually he relented, wrote something in my visa book that was taken back on my next trip. I gave up on trying to get the CURP so all my cell phones and everything else like that are registered in Tere's name instead of mine.

The same Spanish word is used for "wait" and "hope" and there does not seem to be much of a distinction made between those two concepts.

INM Guadalajara gave me my CURP when I received my FM2 in April.

Peter, if it'll make you feel any better, the RC did my CURP wrong (by confusing my nombres and apellido). By the time I go back and get it fixed, then correct my cell phone registration, I'll probably be caught up with you in terms of time invested.

When I renewed my FM2 a couple of weeks ago, the INM agent told me that the CURP isn't really essential for foreigners (from an immigration perspective) until we apply for Inmigrado status.

Thanks for that info, I will probably have one by then. I am on my last renewal of the fm3 so there is time left. Not sure if they are all that picky about CURP and cell phones these days but INM doesn't always take into account what other agencies require.

That must be the trade-off then, the INM office laminated the new fm3 card for me.

What info is asked for on the application for CURP? Any chance of this information being used for identity theft?

Here in Guanajuato supposedly you will now need a CURP to get or renew a drivers license. I don't renew mine for a couple more years, so I can't verify this.

My Baja California Sur driver's license was issued with a CURP-like number on it, but with only 13 characters instead of 18. No idea what's up with that, and I also have a couple of years before the next renewal.

Meanwhile, for Ametisto, I found the government site that explains how to get the CURP:
http://www.renapo.gob.mx/...OPortal/tramite.html
You have to fill in your data online, print the "Constancia de No Registro" (certificate that you're not already registered), and take it to your local office with (it says) your birth certificate and an official ID. The link to the interactive office finder is broken on that page, but I found it here on the SEGOB site.

This is so funny. I was reading this thread, thinking, first of all why are people so anxious about having the CURP. When I registered my cell phone about a year ago, I provided my US passport number, and that was sufficient. My mexican friend told me "Don't be getting any CURP, unless someone insists on it". Then I took a look at my new FM2, and... wow! I do have the CURP, and it is even 18 characters long! (a combination of letters and numbers). Now I really feel important! Thank you all for bringing my attention to it;-)
