Ignore the fools who have to make wise cracks for lack of an intelligent response. It doesnt take the "right" ancestors; and while it may be helpful to have grown up in the environment of a grandma who made good tortillas its not absolutely necessary. Its practice, practice, practice. I started making my own recently because I moved to an area that doesnt carry them in the grocery stores. Guess what, the first few batches were horrible. First I made them too thick, then too thin, etc. I have finally achieved a good tortilla after plain trial and error. One thing I found that did help is to wrap them in a dish cloth as soon as you take them off the grill; this will keep them from going hard. Keep trying, you'll get the hang of it. If you'd like a recipe I'd be glad to post one for you.
