The state of Guanajuato is predicting that up to 30 thousand Mexicans who live and work in the United States will head south this Christmas season in trucks laden with gifts for their relatives. Occasionally, the government provides police escorts and supervision for their trek to insure safe passage. That is the theory but the reality is something else. On average, the vacationers have to set aside from $100-350 dollars to bribe the police not to confiscate their gifts and other belongings. Often folks compare the situation about crime in Mexico versus that in the USA. In this article it is noted that the paisanos feel safer traveling north of the border than in their home country. They know that in the USA, they will be pulled over only if they have committed a traffic infraction whereas in Mexico the likelihood is based upon the value of goods in the vans and pickups. And that's the way it is....

This is inexcusable and arrogant manipulation of the webboards by a moderator who has lost sight of her true function. You want the boards to yourself? Then they are yours. Adios.

Extraneous BS my ass. Dawg worked on a cogent, non-confrontational response to Brian´s post that added value to his comment and to have my comment degraded by a moderator as extraneous BS is an unacceptable display of hubris by one clearly unaccustomed to the civil limits of those charged with the responsibility of monitoring the discourse hereabouts. Where does it say in the manual for moderators that they have the freedom to insult posters with personal insults gratuitously delivered without rejoinder?

What anyone on Mexconnect thinks of any other person making a post or what someone might think of a poster's reasons for posting is not relevant to the discussion.

What IS relevant to the discussion--not just this discussion on this thread, but any discussion--is whatever information will further other posters' understanding of the original post.

So far, this thread has been deficient in discussion of the actual topic.

She was speaking of my post, mutt. I asked what the point of the OP actually is as it appears that the particular poster posts solely negative articles on Mexico. The original article linked to is a Spanish language article directed towards a Mexican readership and has nothing to do with the readers of this forum.

I ask again. What is the point of posting something that does not apply to readers of this forum?

Since the moderator, who deemed responses to Brian´s OP, has failed to respond to my challenge to delineate her reasons for deleting my post that I considered both cogent and well articulated, I now repeat my request for clarification from the moderator and, if ignored once again, I will try as best I can to re-post my comments so the reader can judge the worthiness of my response for him or herself.

I continue to wonder why the function of "moderator" has risen above its traditional role to the point that a "moderator" has become an instigator.

Idsn´t the purpose of this magazine enlightenment and entertainment? Are participants invited to engage in discusion or is the purpose more stratified,

Was that the post where you got relieved of your belongings by local cops in Chiapas and then taken for 500 pesos by federales? How is that not relevant to a discussion on cops shaking down travelers?

Precisely, RH. Not only that incident but, as posted on the subsequently deleted post, incidents involving crooked cops in Alabama and Jalisco. Why, pray tell, were these incidents deemed unfit for discussion after Brian´s post on the same subject. The moderator decided of her own accord that my response was inappropriate. A decision based purely on subjective personal criteria. This forum, needs more mature and objective monitors. This monitor has alraedy shown a tendency to wave her own flag. Let´s clean up the show.
