Saltillo to Reynos via Monterrey Periferico/ road conditions

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hello all,

Ignoring for now the narco problems on this route, I need to know the current road conditions. I hear
rumors that at the Monterrey-Reynosa turnoff to the periferico around Monterrey that there are construction problems.

In September, the last time I was through there, I did not find any such problems.

Has anyone been on this route in either direction recently? I will be leaving Zacatecas for Reynosa on the
13th (Saturday) of November.

Hasta luego, jerezano.

I don't think you were downplaying it, but you simply cannot ignore the narco problems in Tamaulipas right now. The situation which was already unstable has deteriorated rapidly since the military took down the head of the Gulf Cartel in Matamoros on November 5. I'm not suggesting you choose an alternate route, but most people in this area would avoid driving through Tamaulipas if they could.

I came down from Laredo on the 2nd and didn't see the E side of Monterey, but it was smooth sailing with only one minor lane closing on the new Saltillo couta, but there's no traffic, so no delay, otherwise no construction.

Hello all,

We came North to Reynosa from Zacatecas on the 13th Saturday of Nov. We did NOT encounter any anomalies, either in construction or in Narco-violence. I had a new driver and when I suggested we completely by-passed Saltillo and that horrible detour because of highway and intersection tunnels etc in the City. We came the trucking route through the Los Chorros canyonand picked up the Monterrey quota and periférico as usual. No constriction problems there either.

Along the quota from Cadereytra to Reynosa we were glad to see a Government helicopter patrolling the highway. It was going North just as we were and it was traveling at just a bit more than 110 kmph so we got to see it for at least 15 minutes. Reynosa was quiet as well. The Hidalgo crossing was a mess taking an hour and fifteen minutes. I would recommend Anzalduas into Mission, and would have gone that way but my driver needed to drop off at the bus station to go back to Monterrey.

Highway from Zacatecas to just about 20 minutes south of Concepción del Oro is in super excellent condition. 4 lane DIVIDED all the way. Surface from Villa de Cos to San Tiburcio rough in spots because it is the old highway and has not been resurfaced. Going South is all new surface. Work has been started on the difficult approach to the Coahuila border there at Rocky Mountain north of CdeO but no traffic delay. By early next year this highway would be the highway of choice to go from Texas to Guadalajara or Lake Chapala.

Enjoy Mexico. jerezano
