This is a link to an article about the recently opened archeological site about 10 KM from the resort area of Huatulco. I know they have been working on this site for years and you could go in and poke around, but it is now officially opened. I have been told that there are many ancient sites on the Oaxacan coast, many on private property. And why not? Surely the ancients appreciated the beauty of the area as much as we do today.

I had the opportunity to visit Copalito del Rio last year. If you like traditional. off-the-beaten path villages, I recommend it. And on the way you can visit the parque de las ruinas. A taxi from Bahias de Huatulco cost only around 100 peso.
