Sony ebook

A friend is coming to visit and wants to bring me a Sony ebook. Will it work here? Is it easy to use here (if it does work)?

Can this question go back to Living please--it is not really a tech question and not everyone reads the tech forum.

I use my Sony e reader all the time. My only glitch is that they know I am in Mexico and when I went to change my credit card information it refused me. I needed to do this in my "home" country. I will call them to get it worked out and if they do not want to accept my new credit card I will continue to use my reader to check books out of my home library and to load in any books I download from the internet. It reads the epub format and "Calibre" will change many formats to epub with just one click. http://calibre-ebook.com/

There are many possibilities for free books on the internet and the library option is worth its weight in gold. I use my daughters library card and password to access Toronto Public Library's e book selection.

The Sony does not download via cell phone like the Kindle from Amazon but you need to load the book into your reader with a computer. I do not know if you are American or Canadian but if you are American you will have greater selection from Sony's book store and other download sites.
If I can answer any specific questions I will be happy to but my general advice is get it--you will love it.

Thanks!! I am from the US and have US credit cards, but I live in Mexico full time--do you think I can establish my account from Mexico?

I had my father-in-law enter all the information on his computer in Canada while I talked him through. It required him to authorize his computer to set up the account but that was not a problem. Anyone who you trust should be able to do it for you. I will let you know if it is difficult to change my credit card with them.

I did some quick checking and it appears that Amazon has ebooks for the Sony. I believe that they do not have a problem with ordering from MX. If nothing else, you could download the free program KINDLE for PC, download ebooks to your computer and then download to the SONY.

Check the file extensions on what you download as different book readers will read different formats. Calibre will change formats for you but I have not tried changing Amazon's proprietory Kindle format to epub. Sony will read any epub book which is the format used by libraries.
