All Texas border crossings open

According to the US government website for border crossing wait times, all the crossings are open even though most of the highways south are closed.

I read in a news article that there were in excess of 8000 trucks and semis clogging the highways on the Mexico side of the border waiting to cross into the US. The following story out of Laredo and dated yesterday indicates that that Nuevo Laredo roads would be closed for 72 hours:

I think the bridges are/were open, not all the roads.

Just the same as happened to us going down to Baja, the roads were washed away both sides of the bridges ,but the bridges were intact.

(just a different way of reporting the same traffic problem)

The Carretera Nacional between NL and Monterrey is still closed as of Monday morning. The Rio Grande has receded and Bridge I (the older downtown bridge) has reopened. Highway 2 between Piedras Negras and NL and NL and Reynosa is closed. There are lots of travelers stranded in both Laredo and NL. According to El Manana the only route to the interior from Laredo is through McAllen/Reynosa to Monterrey, so I guess the autopista between Reynosa and Monterrey is open.

"La única forma de viajar de Nuevo Laredo hacia el sur del país es cruzando primero a EU, tomar la Carretera 83 entre Laredo y McAllen, Tx., luego cruzar nuevamente a México por Reynosa y tomar rumbo a Monterrey"

Highway 57 south from Piedras through Monclova/Saltillo may be open but it was closed late last week.

Note that the Río Bravo/Grande is expected to rise again starting later today, though not to such high levels as last week. The precise timing of the next surge of water depends on where along the river you are... check the river flood warnings at http://www.weather.com/weather/newscenter/alerts/nswxcategory/TX for more detailed information.
