Diana Kennedy has a new cookbook coming out

Diana Kennedy has a new cookbook coming out this fall: Oaxaca al Gusto.

This link is to an Associated Press story (with photos) that appeared in the Miami Herald:

Queen of Mexican cuisine pens new cookbook

Fun quote (for me):
In classes, cookbooks and lectures, her fundamental principal is simple: "There is never, ever, any excuse for bad food."

Her cookbook Oaxaca al Gusto came out about 18 months ago, in Spanish. It's the English edition that will be out in September. The book is gorgeous and the recipes are as only Sra. Kennedy can make them: fabulous.

Amazon.com is offering the book NOW for pre-sale. If you go to http://www.mexicocooks.typepad.com and look on the left-hand sidebar, you'll see an image of the book cover. Click on that image to get to the page where the book is for sale. Order it right away for a real bargain: Amazon is selling it for $31.50 USD. The Spanish edition is selling at bookstores here in Mexico for over $1200 pesos, and on Amazon for nearly $200.00USD.

Has anyone on the planet ever cooked a meal based on the recipes of Diana Kennedy whose sole purpose in life seems to be to re-define unmemorable peasant offerings as haute cuisine. If words had taste, her overly complicated ways to mix pedestrian ingredients for naught would rate five stars but in reality, her recipes are undeserving of consideration. A more undeserving cookbook author has never graced the planet. Tell me who has actually spent the time and effort to construct a meal of less merit.

I am reminded of the moron who moved to San Franciso´s Marina District in the 1980s and opened a truly "authentic" Mexican restaurant using only U.S. lemons as condiments announcing to Northern Californiians that "real" Mexicans never used limes (meaning the locally preferred Persian limes versus the more astringent "Mexican" limes) and his lemons were more appropriate. Dawg ate there exactly once.

Perhaps someone participating in this forum can tell me how much time Diana Kennedy actually spends in rural Michoacan in her villa removed from the troubles associated with nearby Zitácuarao.

Diana Kennedy lives full-time in Zitácuaro. She travels to do book presentations and conferences, but her year-round home is here. Unlike some people I could mention, she only has one home.

I won't bother to respond to any of the nonsense you wrote about her. It says way more about you than it does about her.

Indeed it does, thank God.

And I promise not to copy and paste your remarks the next time I email her.

Actually, I must admit her books are highly entertaining and I read them with pleasure. Enough said. Her research is meticulous and her work commendable. I buy and read all of her books when I can find them.
