Pan de Anis 1 package yeast 1 1/2 cups piloncillo or dark brown sugar 2 cups lukewarm water 6 cups flour 1/2 cup shortening 2 eggs well beaten 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. aniseed Disolve yeast and 2 tablespoons sugar in warm water. Stir in three cups flour and beat until mixture is smooth. Allow to stand in warm place about two hours. Cream shortening and remaining sugar and add together with the eggs, salt, aniseed and remaining flour. Knead on a floured board until smooth and elastic.Place in a greased bowl in a warm place until double the original size. Knead again and let stand thirty min. Knead again and shape into small round loaves. Place on a cookie sheet and brush tops with melted butter. Let rise again until double in bulk. Bake in a preheated oven(425 degrees F.) for 10 mins, Lower temp. to 325 degrees F. and bake about 50 mins. longer. This bread is also called Semitas de Anis.
