Demonio's Guide For FM3 Renewal

Can't Post | Private Reply
Requisitos
Requirements

• Solicitud de trámite (Formato de estancia)
Online application (Click on link, then see below for completion instructions)

• Original de la forma migratoria.
Your original migratory form (FM3).

• Comprobante de pago de derechos.
Receipt of payment of application fees. (Note: You must obtain a payment form at the INM office, or follow the instuctions provided by Intercasa below to obtain and complete the form online. Then you pay the fees at any nearby bank. The bank will issue a receipt that you'll submit to INM. Guad INM also wants one copy of the receipt).

• Escrito bajo protesta de decir verdad en el que manifieste que subsisten la condiciones bajo las cuales le fue concedida la característica migratoria, así como manifestación de las actividades que se encuentra realizando.
A written and signed declaration under oath stating you maintain the conditions whereby your migratory status was granted and that your activities within Mexico (Rentist, etc.) also remain unchanged.

(EXEMPLAR OF DECLARATION)

Dirigido al Instituto Nacional de Inmigración:
To the National Institute of Immigration:

Yo, Your Name, bajo protesta de decir verdad declaro que mantengo las mismas condiciones y actividades realizadas bajo las cuales me fue concedida mi característica migratoria (FM3), Deseo prorrogar mi característica migratoria (FM3). (Note: Complete this in Spanish. The English translation below is FYI)
I, Your Name, declare under penalty of perjury that I maintain the same conditions and activities under which my migratory status (FM3) was granted. I wish to renew my migratory status (FM3).

Note: The Guadalajara INM Office sometimes requires proof of residence and bank statements. They’ll accept a copy of a utility bill as long as your name appears on it. These requirements do not appear as official requirement on the INM website, but are sometimes needed – at least in Guad. Take them along to avoid return trips.

(INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING ONLINE APPLICATION)

On the Formato migratorio para trámites de estancia (Migratory format) page you will complete the online application that you must print out and take to INM together with the other required documents. Ensure pop-up blocker is disabled on your web browser because an Adobe Reader pop-up page of the completed application that you’ll need to print will appear when you finish entering your information and click on Guardar (Save).

From the ¿Qué desea hacer? (What do you want to do?) pull down menu, select Extender la estancia (Extend my stay)

From the Especifique (Specify) pull down menu, select Prorroga de No inmigrante (Renew migration status of non-immigrant – FM3)

The rest is filling in your personal information. It is very important the information is entered EXACTLY as it appears in your passport. Double and triple check ALL your entries because if even one error is detected by INM, your application will be rejected and you'll need to start from scratch. No changes can be made on the application once it's printed out.

(INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING PAYMENT FORM ONLINE - Thanks Intercasa)

For the pago de derechos go here: http://derechos.inami.gob.mx/WebDatos.aspx

Choose DSMO from the drop down, FISICA from the next drop down, then enter your first and last name. Hit aceptar

Next page choose Art. 8 Fracc II and then at the drop down below choose Guadalajara.

Once your application is accepted by INM, you will be provided with a document that instructs you how to track the progress of your application online. When your new FM3 is ready, you return to INM with the required "infantil" size photographs - three front, two profile. They will then finger print you and issue your new FM3.

Good Luck -- G

Do you know if there are revised instructions on completing the payment form? I've tried to follow your instructions, but I can't any place on the forms that mention the things you say to look for. We've about decided to take everything else we have ready and plead ignorance, asking INM for help.

Using the online payment form is optional, and I think unwise. I removed the instruction for it from my website after a fellow told me he followed the instructions, but got a wrong account number. He paid using the downloaded form only to learn at the INM office that the form had the wrong account number. He had to pay again and could not get a refund.
He was not at fault, and my instructions were not faulty; INM had changed things with no warning. Just like they changed several URLs without any notice.

I renewed my FM2 last week and was given the payment form without even asking for it.

Rolly, thanks so much for your swift reply. I'm thankful that I had difficult with the payment form. We don't really need to be taking any chances on more confusion in this process.

I have:
  • The completed Formato Migratorio Para Tramites de Estancia
  • Valid passport in original and one photocopy of the pages containing personal information, photograph of bearer and expiration date/extensions.
  • Original FM3
  • Copies of bank statements which prove sufficient income (just in case they require it--I understand some places do; some don't)
  • Photos - 2 front, 2 side view passport size photos, no glasses, no jewelry
  • Money for payment of Consular Fees
Am I missing anything? Of course, no one REALLY knows that until INM has reviewed one's documents, right?

Brazil has recently extended the length of their visitor’s visa to 10 years. Ojala! that it were the same here!

Last year my wife and I received our new ID cards in lieu of the booklet. What happens when you renew? Do they issue new cards requiring new photos?

Just got back from Guadalajara migracion office and discovered that they now no longer require a copy of each page of the passport (including all the empty pages). Now all you need is the page with your photo on it. That's a huge step forward.

It will be interesting to see if that is just The Guadalajara office or an across the board new policy.

Same policy for just the key passport pages here in Yucatan since at least April. This seems to mean that the passport is being used only to prove and document the applicant's ID, not for tracking intl. travels.

It's the same at the Mexico City office. Just to be sure this time around, I did copy my entire passport, but they only wanted the page with my photograph. This was just a month ago.

Steve:

Not sure how it works with a FM3/FM2 but at our typical choice of border crossings (Santa Teresa, New Mexico / San Jeronimo, Chihuahua), one's US Passport is definitely used to track FMM's. When the FMM is issued, the Passport is scanned and stamped and then the same is true when cancelling FMM upon exit. YMMV

My husband just renewed his (FM3) annual visa in Colima - Manzanillo actually & the process took all of maybe 15 min. It took longer for me to drive him to the bank & back! We had all the copies of docs & photos made ahead of time & she gave back the photocopy of his current visa. He handed her:

front page of his passport
copy of renewal form from internet filled out
copy of CURP

They were so very pleasant & efficient! We go back in about 2 wks to pick up the new one. We have found that here as well as in Mazatlan, it is a LOT easier to go through this process after the "winter visitors" have left.

After submitting my paperwork on 18 June, I kept checking the status of the application and saw: "sin resolucion" and figured that meant the card wasn't ready yet. This morning I checked again and at the bottom of the online page I read "presentarse en una oficina del INM" Does that mean it's ready to be picked up?

Maybe. It means either that or it means that you are missing some paperwork. We have had some paperwork (not visa related) en tramite in our local INM and have received the same message for both eventualities--the first time because they needed yet another document and the second time (today!) because the tramite was finished and ready to be picked up. Hip hip hooray! All done!

Either way, the translation is, "Go to the INM office."

Herr Metzger,
Have you paid for your renewal? Have you had your infantil ID fotos taken yet? I ask these questions to help you understand where your application is in the renewal process. Both of these things need to be done before you finish the process and get your new No Inmigrante/FM3 card.

Hi Esperanza and Steve - I have completed everything except for returning to the office with my photos. I'm just waiting to read that the visa is ready for pick-up. So thanks for letting me know that "Presentarse en una oficina del INM" means "go to the office." Oh, and by the way, Steve, although my name is German and I translate from German to English, I'm not German. My German ancestor got off the boat in New Orleans in 1848. Kim will do fine.
