Mexican Food in Berlin II - an Opinion

Can't Post | Private Reply
A fine journey over expository if disjointed and rough roads. In some 45 contributions, an entertaining if occassionally amateurish human attempt at communication. I enjoyed the discourse but it was time to shoot the damn thing so my congratulations to the moderators for their patience and forebearance and, finally, having put the beast mercifully to sleep .

Imagine that a thread started under the pretext of "Mexican Food in Berlin"; an absurd notion if there ever was one, would become such a fecund ground for creativity. I am impressed by the membership hereabouts.

I, too, thought it an odd subject, but it turned into an interesting romp. Thanks Manny.

But objectively speaking, no less absurd than East Indian,Thai or other Asian cuisines in Chapala you are constantly whining about.

I suppose, Manuelito, you meant to say the "...East Indian, Thai or other Asian cuisines (the complete and total lack of which are competently prepared and sold anywhere in any eatery near Lake Chapala including Metro El Rancho Grande) you are constantly whining about." (properly constructed as "about which you are constantly whining)

No more whining. You have inspired me. I´m off to the garden to harvest some lemon grass, Thai basil, mint and cilantro then off to Super Lake for some Thai coconut milk and basmati rice for tonight´s fiery hot and spicy Thai chicken curry prepared as historically prepared in Thailand using ingredients grown or purchased right here on the lake (except for galengal for which I substitute ginger root).

Well, all lakeside ingredients as soon as I get a new kafir lime tree. We can´t grow all this stuff in Highland Chiapas - too cold.

I would have preferred a nice slab of Pacific yellowfin tuna prepared Asian style to go with this but my deep sea fisherman supplier is boycotting me.

Oh yes, the tuna.......about which one must be certain the recipient will not only appreciate it but also know how to prepare it properly. This ain't the stuff you mash up with store bought mayo and diced pickles and spread between 2 slices of Bimbo.

The jury is still debating in your case.

How dare you belittle "Bimbo" with that accursed response. As Julia Child remarked before her unfortunate demise, "Bimbo" has its proper function as in:

BLT
Two slices of Bimbo "reglar" white bread
One large and ripe heirloom tomato
A fine and properly smoked slab of bacon or two or even three
Some (preferably) iceberg lettuce or a more sophisticated lettuce leaf for smart-assed Tapitios
Best Foods Mayonnaise
A glass of dry red wine
A sunny garden setting under a palapa

I really miss Julia

Señora Dexterity has a slightly healthier version of the classic BLT . Cut way back or eliminate the mayo and replace with slices of avocado, once considered in this country the mantequilla de los pobres when dairy was scarce but many had avocado trees on their property.

An ice cold chelada replaces the red wine.

Daughter Dexterity found Haas avocados at the reasonable price of 1 euro each this past week while in Verona. This weekend they grilled burgers at Lago Garda with a side of real guacamole. The guests loved both the burgers and the guacamole. Guacamole being unknown to most and apparently you cannot find a burger there outside of the golden arches.
