Beach stop in early Sept on way back to Phx?

We spent several days in San Carlos on our way down from Phoenix to our summer rental in Ajijic. Enjoyed it very much, though the water was still too cold for comfort for us.

When we depart on Sept 1st, we are interested in a different place for a few days on the beach. MUCH prefer small towns versus PV or Mazatlan. We were thinking of Sayulita or San Pancho, but I'm wondering if the heat and humidity is just too much to bear? We have survived the heat of Phoenix for years very comfortably with a/c, and visited the humid climates of Costa Rica and Thailand, but. . .

We considered Manzanillo, but that seems to really lengthen our trip home and seems to include some roads that are challenging drives.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Hello jkgourmet,

From Ajijic north along the coast there are several really nice beaches along the way. Instead of going south to San Pancho or Sayulitla try stopping at the Nayarit beach of Aticama just south of San Blas. The Aticama bed and breakfast run by Ken and Sheila offers two cabañas on the beach as well as an upstairs self-contained apartment. San Blas too offers lots of hotels and good beaches but the jejunes are awful. Farther north at Acopenta turn left for the Playas de Novillero where you will find three hotels of one or two stars. Or go as far as Mazatlán where you can find luxury accomodations on the beach. North of Mazatlán I am at sea.

Make sure you get an air conditioned room! And the water will be plenty warm, I promise.....

I believe the further north exit Jerezano is referring to is Acaponeta?

Well, if you are looking for a low-key stay at a small fishing village/beach area check out Chacala. It is just north of San Pancho/La Peñita de Jaltemba and due west of Las Varas.

If you need a bit more 'happenings' but still a fairly lay-back place, check out Los Ayala just around the corner from Rincon de Guayabitos.

Jejunes are like fruit flys, correct? Are they bad at that time of year - September - or all year long?
