If you are talking about the town of Chapala, as far as I can recall, there are only two ISPs. Prodigy (Telmex) and
Laguna. In the town, you only can get phone service. If
you live far enough away to require a long distance connection, (i.e. Chapala itself is a long distance call), then it is just as cheap (or should I say, expensive) to call Guadalajara.... where you have lots of providers.
As you travel down the Lake towards Ajijic still only two providers, but you can also get Laguna Wireless. When you get as far as as Jocotepec, you have Prodigy, Laguna wireless (but Laguna phone is long distance) and a bunch of local providers.

Boy, you were up early this morning.
Thanks for the info. I will get Prodigy before we move down. If it works ...good. If not, haven't lost much.

You get Prodigy down here, not the US version. Telmex sells
it for about 1,100 pesos a year. First get here and get a phone line. However, you may find that Laguna is a better
service even on the phone. The telephone company gives you 100 local calls free and then charges you for each extra local call. You can connect with Podigy and not get on because they are busy and wind up with 20 to 30 dollars worth of phone calls a month.
I do get up early in the morning, but I think David's clock is messed up.
