Muertos en Michoacan

What's the best part of Muertos in Michoacan? What does Muertos mean to you, and how do you celebrate the holiday? Where's your favorite Muertos venue in Michoacan?

I went to the island last night and really liked it. If you're young thats the place to be for the night. If I am ever here for the Day of the Dead again, I'm definately going to spend the night camped out up there. I would have really liked to do that, it was my first time on the Island and really liked the park up at the top. As far as the Panteon tho, if you really want to see the rememberance aspects of the holiday I think you should go to another cemetary such as the one going in to town from Morelia (Tzintzuntzan?). I went there last year and its not even comparable to the one on the island. The Tzintzuntan one seems to be a lot more real, and was quite big and impressive. The one on the island, I think they should consider limiting entry to a hundred or so tourists at a time.

All in all, the island was really neat. As long as you're not claustrophobic, cause its like being in a mosh pit at a rock concert. Well, trying to get into the park at 11 oclock at least...... But well worth it.

Fantastic! I think that's the first time "mosh pit" and the island of Janitzio have ever been used in the same paragraph, but it's a perfect characterization.

And the idea of limiting numbers is a great one. Once you're in, of course. <g>
