Winter long sta in a colonial city

Can't Post | Private Reply
I am planning on spending 2-3 months next winter (Jan - Apr) in another of Mexico's colonial cities/towns. (I spent last winter in Alamos, Sonora). My destination choice is undecided as yet & will depend on my finding suitable rental accommodations. I will want a long-stay rental in/near el centro/historic district. I'm a well-traveled female retiree who will be there alone, so for security & social reasons, I would want a small casita/apartment in a complex or apartment block, or in a suite hotel. My price range is about US$500/month. I am prepared to book a hotel for a week or so & look around for a place once I get there, so your advice & tips re a central/budget hotel to book & advice on preferred neighborhoods to 'live' or to avoid would be much appreciated. The email address of local contacts for rentals would also be handy.

I think Merida would be a lovely city during those months. Close to the gulf coast, a few hours from the Caribbean coast, close to many, many Maya ruins. Wonderful, free public culture, a symphony, dance.

I would recommend you investigate it further for the winter months

I do not mind answering questions :)

It was a good answer, too.

Maybe San Cristobal de las Casas would be a better location

RONI:

Forgive me. I was not making fun of your sincere response but I thought the OP was unkind to you and I was making that point. Your response was correct and I cannot think of a better town than Merida for anyone.

I did not think you were making fun of my response.

I did not detect any unkindness of the part of the OP, but I am just a poor boy, though my story is often told :)
