Car Entry: wife has title, husband driving car down

We are planning on bringing a car to Mexico. We each have an FM-3. However, the car is titled to the wife, and the husband will be driving down alone. Should we retitle the car in the husband's name before importing it?

Hi G,

You could change the title, or you can give him a notarized letter of permission to bring the car. Include the VIN in the letter. Give him the title and registration papers, too.

Hi, Rolly,

Good suggestions. I'll provide him with a notarized letter. I also found the Aduana website and according to their rules you can bring in your wife's, child's or parent's car providing you bring along documentation of the relationship, such as a birth certificate or marriage certificate. So, I will do both. This will ensure that they don't ask for either.

Still waiting to find out if anyone has ever used Banjercito's website to apply for the permit and if it helps.

The aduana website is at www.aduanas.sat.gob.mx
