Car Insurance for Mexico

Is it possible to purchase car insurance for Mexico for a US plated vehicle with long since expired registration from the US and no current US drivers license or US car insurance? If so, any insurance provider recommendations?

US plated car with expired registration no US insurance
US Owner with FM2 and Jalisco Drivers License and temp import permit, car is in Jalisco.

My registration and license have been expired for years now but maintain liability insurance through Imbursa. I'm on an FM-3, haven't left the country or had insurance for years. Ask any of the banks about insurance. Some people I know with similar circumstances insure through Azteca.

That should not be a problem. I fit in that category and have insurance from AXA.

I have a list of other companies here: http://rollybrook.com/auto-insurance.htm#list

Same situation here (expired US registration, etc.).

We just switched our insurance last week from Lewis and Lewis to AXA. Jesus Tejeda (in Guadalajara) is the agent. He was very helpful and responsive by both telephone and e-mail. We got a second quote, slightly less expensive, from another agent who writes policies for AIG, and who handles our medical insurance, but Tejeda had been so enthusiastically recommended by a lot of people with more experience in Mexico than I, decided to go with him.

Sorry, I don't have his contact info handy, but if you want it I can find it.

If you don't mind my piggy-backing on your thread, can I ask others how much liability coverage they carry? I think we settled on $80,000 US, which was more than he had in the initial quote. Wondering if that's enough.....or.....what.

Jesus Tejeda Mejorada
CEL: 044 (333) 667-0499
E-Mail: jtejeda17@hotmail.com (Unlike any other Mexican insurance agent we have ever used, Jesus responds to e-mail inquiries)

An outstanding insurance agent. We insure our Jalisco plated Nissan XTrail through Jesus and AXA, two homes, one in Ajijic and one in San Cristóbal De Las Casas and two major medical health insurance policies. We have been with AXA and Jesus or his father since about 2002 and used to insure two California plated cars we imported with Jesus and AXA before we sold our foreign plated vehicles. We have had two claims in all those years; one a health insurance claim and the other an auto accident claim - both in Chiapas . Exceptional responsiveness and service.

The proof of a good insurance agent and, by inference, a good insurance company he/she represents is demonstrated when one really needs help; not when one is pinching pennies when paying annual premiums - especially when one experiences serious, life-threatening problems in the middle of nowhere and can use a helping hand. We are not speaking simply of premiums here but responsiveness above and beyond the call of duty. These folks are heads above everyone else in our opinions. Our unreserved recommendation.

Automobiles are counted among some of the most expansive things we use in our daily life. Their safety and proper care demands great vigilance on our part. Vehicle theft is almost common in all the countries of the world and can cause you a loss of tidy sum of money, if by chance you lose your vehicle. Moreover, there is always a possibility of road accidents which may deprive you of your costly vehicle. To avoid any such embarrassing situation, vehicle insurance is regarded the best possible solution which saves you from a heavy loss...
