About 30 miles south of Mexicali. Being described as a "being on a roller-coaster". Lasted 30 seconds or longer. Felt across all of southern California and Arizona:

It has now been upgraded to 7.2 with numerous after shocks.

7.2 earthquake, just 108 miles away, 3:40pm Sunday. I was walking downtown Tijuana, Mexico, and i see people standing in the streets, cars stopped, everyone looking up at the buildings. I'm thinking, cartel? I asked in spanish, what happened? ..can't believe how good my Nike Air walking shoes are, LOL, i didn't feel a thing!!!

Cristina felt the first, smaller quake - I missed it as I was too concentrated on what was on the grill. Shortly after that the big one hit and it seemed to last forever. I ran to check on Cristina and after the shaking stopped I had to check all around the house, looking for any cracks or problems. The good news is that we and the house came out OK but really sorry to hear about the folks in Mexicali who were killed and all those who suffered damage.

Let's all pray that this was just a case of the plates doing some "minor" de-stressing and after the "adjustment" things will quiet down for awhile...

We have family living and working in Mexicali, but they were away for Semana Santa. They have now headed home to assess the situation, and we are just waiting to hear how their home faired through this.

I had actually been in Mexicali the day before the quake happened. The next day we were at our beach house at Rosarito (where no longer live :( ) we sure felt it and I was taking a nap. I didn't even get up...I said "ya se va a parar" but it kept going and going!! I also knew in that moment that even though we felt it strong, we were not near the epicenter.

A couple few days after that, we went back to Mexicali and saw a lot of damage but very few catastrophic things. The ISSSTE building was severely damaged, oh and I sorta fell partway into a manhole. Oh and to feel several aftershocks a day, even ones that wake me up! It was a first for me...at least the aftershocks were.
