FMT to FM3

Our young, American Caretakers came to Mexico on an FMT and have decided they would like to continue on here and not have to drive 3 days twice a year back to Tuscon to renew their FMT. We would like to assist them in obtaining their FM3 visas and are looking for advice from others who may have done the same. We personally hold FM3's that allow for our business and other negotiations and would be interested in knowing if it would be substantially easier and or less expensive for them to apply for Rentista as opposed to a working visa?
Appreciate hearing directly to me at theotherhollyhunter@gmail.com.
Thanks in advance,
Holly
