Jalapeño Jelly?

With all the chilis around here (including the huge amounts coming out of our garden!) I'd love to make some jalapeño jelly... but am having trouble finding fruit pectin, which apparently is necessary according to all the recipes I've read. To tell you the truth, I've never made jelly, wouldn't know fruit pectin if it jumped out from the grocery store shelf and landed in my cart all by itself. I did some internet digging and found out what it is, and actually some recipes for homemade pectin but geez what a huge amount of work! I'm not really that great of a cook and homemade pectin sounds extremely complicated.

OK, my question... anybody ever found readymade fruit pectin anywhere in Mexico at any store, and what the heck is it called in spanish so I know how to ask for it??

Pectin is pectina. I buy it at La Frontera, on Plaza Carrillo in downtown Morelia. La Frontera has anything--ANYTHING--you might need in the way of cooking/baking supplies.

Is La Frontera a private owned store or a chain? I'm at least a couple days away from Morelia :) With luck they'll have a sister store in Veracruz or Oaxaca! Thank you for the spanish translation... I actually used that word when asking around for it, figuring putting an "a" on the end of the english word might work. lol. Still I had no success so far in finding it. Good to know it is avail here in the country at least... I'll keep searching the stores. Thanks.

La Frontera is a privately owned Morelia store, with no sucursales in other places. It's an old-fashioned baker's supply store, with some general groceries as well.

I was just there a few days ago to buy almond extract, and I could have bought it in alcohol or oil--and I could have had 50 other flavors as well. The store is amazing.

I don't know which is Plaza Carillo. Would you kindly tell me a bit more specificly where La Frontera is located?

Peter, I sent you a private email.

But just for general knowledge, La Frontera is located at Plaza Carillo, which marks the northern end of Calzada Júarez (the Zoo street) and the beginning of Calle Abasalo, which is one way in a northern direction. Calle Galeana , the next street west, is one way south bound.

The principal cross street to the west is Manuel Muñiz, and its eastern continuation briefly has the name Benedicto López, before becoming Av. Lázaro Cárdenas, where you can buy your plumbing and bathroom tile supplies. ;-)

when cooking the peppers I add an apple quartered with skin on, apples contain lots of pectin...suerte
