Transportation from Cancun airport to Akumal or Tulum

I am wondering what options there are on ground transportation from the Cancun airport to either Akumal or Tulum. I understand that you can rent a car or take a cab. I am curious to know if there are any buses or shuttles or any other alternative to get to Akumal or Tulum. We have a house rented in Tankah Beach, and will have various people flying in to stay with us, all on different schedules. Instead of having to drive to Playa Del Carmen to pick them up and drop them back off at the end of their stay, it would be much easier for everyone if they could get to Akumal or Tulum. Anyone that knows anything about this please write me. Thank Yoou, Jadee

There are lots of options. In your particular case I would recommend you rent a Suburban for the week (8 people max). Check with the 800 numbers for places like National and Budget. Pick it up at the airport--have a week of freedom (Tankah is beautiful but everything is a long way away--and if you have a set of wheels you will have more freedom and spend less in time and money in the long run.

If you just want a way for them to get to you in Tankah, check out some of the local companies like alltournative.com or one of the many others.

if you don't want to rent a vehicle your options are very limited. A bus or van from the airport (bus to playa) van to where you are. If you take the bus, you will have to taxi from Playa, or take a collectivo and walk in.

Car or renting a van is your best option.
