vans to Mexico for people and packages

When I lived in Oklahoma City, there were several vans that left each week and went to towns in northern Mexico. They transported people and packages. I used them a few times to send boxes to a couple of towns in northern Mexico. Before I moved to Mexico one family was planning to start van service to Cuernavaca, but due to a death in their family they never started this service. I now live near Cuernavaca and am in need of a van that comes from Oklahoma or Texas to somewhere in this vicinity, either Cuernavaca or Mexico City or Cuautla or Puebla or Toluca or Pachuca. If anyone knows of such a van service, please let me know. Larry Prater prater@usa.net Thanks.

Could you tell me how the vans or buses work for packages? Approimate cost? Safe arrival of items? Any size or weight limits for packages? Thanks.

I answered before in private message and will try to help more in this post. I'm not an expert, just know what works for us in our situation.

If you're in a city with a significant Hispanic population - pretty much any city in Texas or SW USA - you will probably have several Mexican bus lines that cater to paisanos. You can generally spot them in a phone book by their name and ad, or find one of the free weekly publications that cater to the Hispanic market. They won't usually have a website or at least not much more than a banner page so you'll need to call or go in person. With anything Mexico, I find you get better info in person. Cost, even for my native Mexican wife, varies and seems to be at the whim of the clerk. Some days a big TV-sized box will be $60 which she refuses to pay so she'll go back the next day and it's $40. Even if you get a gringo price it'll be cheaper than a DHL or Fedex. The box gets loaded under the bus and the driver takes care of it until the destination. Give them your name and recipient's name. Find out the time the bus arrives at the destination, and have your contact at the station when the bus arrives. We've never had a box go astray or even been opened but we don't leave it at the station for days and we assume every box will be opened at checkpoints so we close it up with several strands of sisal rope (which can be re-tied whereas tape may not re-stick).

As far as I know we've never paid any customs duties. They (the bus) don't even ask us for a valuation or to fill out any forms. Maybe they just build it into their price quote? We are usually just sending used clothes, shoes, small housewares, etc. We've been sending boxes this way for over ten years, last one was in January, next one will be May or June.
