About thirty-five years ago I made my first trip to a quaint stretch of beach about 10 kilometers north of Acapulco on my way back south from Zihuatanejo. I was much younger then and somewhat of a surfer that enjoyed the challenge of large waves. The stretch of this great looking beach seemed too glisten showing off the power and thunder of its massive waves which crashed on its shorelines spewing fits of misty spray giving onlookers a challenge to come and play. The name of this hideaway is called Pie De La Cuesta.

I loved it then and memories now are no different. Although I had a hot looking new car when I first found the place, its flashiness made it more comfortable for me to park it at my hotel between the beach and the lagoon and just catch a bus that regularly traveled to Acapulco. I believe the fare then was about 25 cents.

I was young, single, brash and enjoyed picking up señoritas, basking in the sun, riding the surf and feasting on the fires the gorgeous sky’s the sunsets provided which have not changed in Pie De La Cuesta for thousands of years. The sun sinking into the ocean is etched in memory and every now and then I Google in search of changes the area may have had and they are as rapid as the momentum of its sunsets. Back then I too was traveling alone and personally I found both the immediacy of the lagoon, the surf and people I met very special.

As for Zihua, some of the restaurant owners along the bay may have small homes or even rooms for rent. I found a house I rented from just such a restaurant owner with a hot babe I had previously met and we became a short term item. Make a few inquiries while there and who knows you may just find something nice and less expensive with an ocean view. I have wonderful memories and stories I’ve posted in the past of Zihua, Playa De la Ropa, circa 1969 – 1972. Not sure when you’re going but right now is a very nice time of the year to visit. Perhaps someone else will have more input for you. Google for Zihua forums, you’ll probably find more action there. Good luck and have a great trip!
