What happened to the prolific poster from San Cristóbal? Did Scoobey Doo get banned?

Hound Dog would be pleased to know, I think, that his (temporary) absence has been noticed!

Ah, Manuelito:

It´s good to know someone misses Dawg who has been suffering from a defective keyboard among other things. Off to the Soconusco with planned visits to the area around Motozintla and a drive into the outer edges of the Reserva de La Biosfera El Triunfo, a stay in a fancy old German coffee finca along the Ruta del Cafe, a drive in the environs of Volcan Tacaná on the border with Guatemala, a visit to Tapachula (Chiapas´second city as you doubtless know) and up the coast to Tonalá, Puerta Arista and Boca del Cielo and, finally, if time and road conditions allow, back to San Cristóbal via the drive from Tonalá through the Reserva de La Biosfera La Sepultura and Tuxtla Gutierrez. This will be our first exploration of the Soconusco and we are really looking forward to it. This drive takes one from the Chiapas Highlands around San Cristóbal through the Central Chiapas Depression and back up into the Sierra Madre de Chiapas and then to the hot low country along the sparsely populated and somewhat primitive Soconusco coast. I know you may be familiar with some of the region we are crossing. Any input on highlights of this area?

Maybe we´ll settle in some tiny, two-bit beach town south of Puerta Arista - say El Manguito at the end of the dirt road from Cabeza de Toro and subsist in a palapa on beer and the catch of the day. But then, maybe not.

By coincdence, una amiga del D.F. sent us a link to a Finca Hamburgo, in the Soconusco. Could it be the same place in which you stayed?

Finca Hamburgo is quite popular locally and we are considering it but have our sights set at present on Finca Argovia because of its beautiful surroundings and individual cabins. There are many choices in that area but we may be limited as to choices by the three dogs who will be accompanying us. Fortunately, one of them is a Xoloitzcuintli which is a breed Mexicans often instantly fall in love with so we´ll dress her up and have her check us in. This trip is scheduled for a week from now but we will report our experiences here upon our return.

In our travels about Mexico, we have found that few places say they will accept dogs over the telephone but equally few actually reject you if you show up with dogs and are sufficiently humble about your lodging problem. The difficulty Mexicans have looking you in the eye and telling you you must sleep in your car is an endearing local characteristic and usually good for a room for the night after an appropriate whining session and partial loss of personal dignity.

I can't ever imagine you in that situation. :-)
