If Dish is gone wich one to choose? Shaw? Dtv?

Hello, I'm a satellite dealer here in Mexico City, I've heard a lot about the signal loss here when the new Dish feed comes up, now that i've read some post in this forum, I know its a sure thing.

My question is...

Directv or Shaw?

Directv works in here, but only with 2.4 meters dishes and i've heard about some dealers refusing to activate dtv receivers... any recommendation?

I haven't heard of Shaw before, kinda heard about Starchoice, I'm checking its webpage... Isn't a problem that the company is located in Canada? How does that affect the signal strength?

Thanks!

In my opinion ShawDirect, which used to be StarChoice, would be the way to go. Shaw does not require a 2.4 meter dish. A one meter or less dish can be used. Since the service is Canadian, one must have an "Account Handler" in Canada to handle one's account. This is done by numerous individuals for a nominal fee. Receivers used to be able to be ordered from Global Communications, but you would have to check on the current status of that. The service has good reception as far south as Central Mexico, but I am not familiar with signal strength any further south than Central Mexico. The Shaw service carries most of the US Channels and Networks, so should be acceptable to most North Americans.

...excluding the 106 million North Americans living in Mexico since Shaw has virtually no programming in Spanish!

I love my Shaw Direct (*Choice) because it gives me Seattle, Vancouver and Victoria, and being a snowbird that's important to me. But I also subscribe to local digital Cable TV so that I can watch local news and I love movies in English or German with Spanish captions or subtitles, which helps me with my Spanish (Not that all Spanish translations printed at the bottom of the screen are exactly the same as is spoken).

Here along the shores of Lake Chapala I get a very strong signal from Shaw using the Canadian 75 E elliptical dish allowing me to look at 2 satellites at once. The dish measures only 36.5 by 26.5 inches

I have a little different twist that I am curious about. I would like to watch the Mexican TV programs with captioning in English....that way I can learn Spanish with the proper pronuciation. Are programs here not produced with closed captioning, even in Spanish, for the deaf? Thanks for any insights........
