Everything looks so different here on Mexconnect now.........paid predial in Tijuana on Thursday, 180 pesos, less than last year. So while crossing into the US we are asked if we had any fruits or vegetables. Odd, I've crossed about 1500 times and never have been asked agricultural questions. "No, nada," my wife sez. We get the card to go to secondary. My wife then discovers 3 mandarinas in the back seat. "Oh no, I said we didn't have any and now we are going to get fined" wifey says with great concern. "Ay que comerlas (We have to eat them fast !)" Aw man, we just ate , I'm full. "Here you take one and I'll take one , hurry up!" Sheesh, OK, so we each gobble one down, are filled up to our eyeballs I think. "But there is one left!" Noooo, I CAN'T eat anymore...hide it in the trash. "oh no, its our turn..." and the inspectors looked under the truck with a mirror then waved us on through. We ate those stupid oranges for nothing...wifey laughed so hard she peed her pants 8<)

He he, my wife got in trouble for that once when we were crossing by bus. We've driven the last 5 years so not sure how it is now but then they used to make everyone get off the bus and take all their bags to the security line, run it through a scanner like at the airport, with suspicious bags and random bags pulled aside for hand inspection. One of ours was selected and the guy asked her "tienes frutas" and she said no, he started looking through the bag saying "Are you sure? Maybe something you forgot?" At which point I knew they had spotted something and he already knew what he was going to find. Sure enough, he pulled out a small bag of mandarinas and admonished her a bit before letting us go. No fine.
