Driving To PV; Staying For A Few Months

Usually I drive the Coast in a truck camper. Thinking of going light in a pickup this year and hoteling it; and or car/truck camping. Is Chacala still open? How would I plan for motels/hotels along the way? Once I get to PV I am expecting it should be pretty easy to find accommodations and would like to get over to Yelapa. But they need to be very reasonably priced for me. So I need connections/websites/ etc if anyone can help.
I'll be leaving from San Francisco; PV via Nogallas, Mazatlan etc.

You neglected to state from where you are coming from and the route that you plan to take. Answers would be easier with this info.

Actually the OP did say he/she is leaving from San Francisco and travelling via Nogales and Mazatlan to PV.

Explain your "is Chacala still open" question.

If you are referring to Playa Chacala west of Las Varas Nayarit, what do you mean by "open"?

Yes that's the one; 2 years ago there was "almost free camping" but heard that part of the beach area has been bought and closed off.

Yes, the old Playa camping area under the palm trees has been fenced off to your kind of camping, or any for that matter. There is still some 'tent' camping around and you probably could find a place on either end of the playa to park your truck and use it to camp in also. I am there now (but not camping). You could also get local Techos de Mexico lodging for as little as $20-25/night. Ask around for Israel's Mirador overlooking the beach on the north end (or any number of other places owned by locals). Of course one can also pay $100-150 if one is so inclined.
