In our Ajijic ghetto home, we have two enormous skylites and about 8 smaller ones, intelligently installed by some former owner. In winter, these are doing a nice job of bringing in heat and sunlight. In the hot months, we tarp them. Along with a big working fireplace...we are pretty toasty.
And then, there's long johns. That's next.

Back in San Miguel, it was sooooo cold in our brick icebox that we had to hang a blanket in the stairwell. In the morning, the whole neighborhood was outside to catch the rays. It freezes there some nights. This is mo' bettah.

Don't you run into "fading" issues with all of those skylites at that altitude? We experienced such in our townhouse here in Albuquerque (similar altitude) and took some of the skylights out of our house plans based on our experiences. We like the light but Kathy didn't want her clothes being faded in the walk in closet.

While maybe not technically in the Lakeside geographic area, we did have snow at our former home in Ixtlahuacan one year. Thankfully, we were not in residence at that point in time! Then again, we did have three gas fireplaces.

We had replaced the old fiberglass covering the skylights with UV glass. Since one is over the kitchen area and the other over an all purpose room in the center of the house, there is no problem with fading. The smaller skylites in the living room area are old glass block recessed into the roof, and my walk-up-to closet is in the bedroom...a deep, dark, pit of a room. Good for sleeping...and clothes.

'in my dotage...." I love it. That's great. Hey, I'll have you know that I am a "fine Old Gentleman." Had a guy's wife call me that, quite a while back. What a hoot.

The snow, the freezing pipes, the cold....is getting a little tired. It just might be, that Chapala and the Lakeside is just what this old guy needs for what's left of my time on this wonderful planet. One thing though....is my dogs. I've got a couple of dogs that are non-negotiable. And they "ain't" little. Chihuahua's they're not. How about two 80 pounders. A Doberman and Golden Retriever.

Whadda' you guys think? A problemo? From what I see in El Ojo del Lago...could be, eh?

Dogs? No problem. Bring 'em and they can join the dog-centric society here. "Hound Dog" had a passel of mastiffs in his backyard. 'Most everybody seems to have at least one critter.

This is a good place to enjoy your dotage. No white stuff to shovel.
