I live in Mexico City and rent an apartment here. I had no problems finding one to rent because the owner is an old friend of mine! You can use websites like segundamano (www.segundamano.com.mx) to look for a place to live. You can also figure out which neighborhood you'd like to live in and walk around and look for "To rent" signs posted on private houses and apartment buildings. But there is the little problem of needing a "fiador" when you go to sign the lease. A "fiador" is a property owner living in the city who's willing to guarantee that you will pay the rent in a timely fashion. I also suggest that you log onto this website (http://www.eltworld.net/forums/) and scroll down to the Mexico Forum. It's an online gathering place for expat English teachers, and quite a few of the posters live in Mexico City. Post your query there and you should get a few helpful answers. ¡Buena suerte!
