My curiosity seems to increase more every time I drive by our almost completed new strip mall, what's happening?
Do they have an opening date? Always a few guys seem to be doing a few things but are they there to make possible tenants think it's still being comleted? Anyway, I'm just curious. Sure does look pretty.

My very imperfect understanding of the intention of this mall is to attract "upscale" stores there. That is all I have heard. Rumors abound. First, I heard it would have a casino. Now, my understanding of what constitutes "upscale" or even "casino" here is quite flawed. it looks like something out of Arabian Nights, and I keep wondering if that upside down umbrella looking thingie is going to fill with dust and water. Fascinating. I used to be curious about it too. But like all things Mexican, I guess we'll find out when it happens.

I don't care about the upscale stores, just where is the most important one: Wendys, or Burger King, or even Mac. I'm having withdrawel from those overly fat, overly salted but oh! so comforting junk foods.

ROFL. I heard the rumor that Burger King was coming, but canceled out when the McDonalds didn't go into Walmart.
The logic involved eludes me completely.....but I'm used to that around here.

So here's a reliable rumor: when we were in Lloyd's in downtown Ajijic the other day, the rep told us that they would be moving that office to the new strip mall soon. The other Lloyd's near the Farmacia Guad. won't be moving, though.

The logic to Burger King not coming because McDonald's isn't at WalMart: a marketing principle. If you clump a bunch of fast food joints together, they all do better.

Not exactly. Our electrician is working on the new Lloyd's. Lloyds sold out to Actinver which is now called Actinver Lloyd's. The original Lloyd's group is reopening under its own name: Lloyd's. It is a totally separate and new business and it IS going in to the new plaza.

An article in the Guadalajara Reporter said it is to be opening in November, I think. They have several stores lined up including the Lloyd's Insurance office. There are still stores not rented. They say they expect it to be fully occupied by spring.

Georgia, I hope they will be opening soon but I noticed that the article did not say November of what year.

what I heard from my architect is that the rents are so high that many potential tenants have determined that they would be better off not locating there.
