A small group of expatriates meets every Wednesday evening at 5PM at the Club Campestre in Morelia.

The address: Av. Campestre s/n, Col. Ocolusen, Morelia. The club is located on the southeast side of Morelia.

That's the formal expat group. The original poster asked whether expats met informally. Their numbers and reunions exceed the formal group, but they're so informal that they have no regular meeting times, roster of names or leader, and they shamelessly, brazenly do not have a favorite charity project. You may encounter the informal gatherings at Cafe Europa, Starbucks, Costco, OXXO, and Bistro Panini.

The OP asked about informal gatherings, not accidental encounters. If the Wednesday group is formal, I'll need to break out the chapeau and white gloves the next time I go.

thanks Jennifer and Esperanza--may look for the informal ones and drop by the "more formal/regular" one

Great, thanks for asking this. After a few years living here I have finally begun to get curious about other ex-pats in the area. The "gringos" here seem to have mainstreamed well with locals and are not largely visible.

If you cenar at La Imaculada or stop by Las Capuchinas in the evening for atole and tamales on occasion then you all remain pretty well anonymous. I mean, I didn't come here to to this part of Mexico to hob-nob with americanos. But if you share that same sentiment then you probably are not the ones I came here to get away from either.

Perhaps I will see you at one of the gathering sites. If the formal meeting is at a campo de golfo then I probably don't need my tailcoat or dinner jacket.

Is this a coffee klatch kind of meeting? Of a dozen or so folks, mixed? Or a bit more organizedthan that? I'd like to attend soon and just curious what to expect.
