Does anyone know where I can get old (or just looks old) iron gate and door hardware in Jalisco or Nayarit? I don't mind driving to Guad or environs if I have to, as I have other things on my shopping list. Thanks....JL

There are iron work shops (herreria?) all over Ajijic and probably other towns. My guess is you could tell them what you want and they could make it for you and even make it look old-fashioned. Probably best to draw a picture with dimensions or take a photograph of what you want.

Cookj5,

That's exactly the advise I would have given. We've had several gates made. You're right, they can make them look like your photo or drawing.

If you take a drive into Tonala - take the first left at the traffic light after you get off the highway. Before you get to the hill, on both the right and left sides, there are a number of iron workers that can build you anything you want. The prices are right and let your imagination guide you!

Thanks All...It had not occurred to me that the guys who made my iron gates could make the stuff I want. What I want is heavy, decorative iron hardware for my front gate and garage doors. I just assumed that the there would be shops where this traditional iron gate hardware could just be purchased. Live and learn....thanks again.

There re many resources on the internet for getting ideas/pictures of what you may want. As a beginning why not try 'Historical Arts and Castings'

Actually, you are correct. What your local "herrero" (iron worker) will do is go his source of decorative elements that you want incorporated into your doors, canceles, or whatever, and incorporate those elements into the framework that he builds and installs. So, you want a reference where you live for a good herrero.

Thanks, Georgia...I have a good one, who has done 3 wrought iron security gates for me. I'll just ask him when I get back in a few weeks.
