life in San Joaquin, Queretaro??

Can't Post | Private Reply
Hi,
I was travelling through mexico and spent a day in San Joaquin in Querataro. I want to go back and spend more time there and explore around.
I did not see a central plaza or open market like I have in many places. Does anyone have any knowledge about San Joaquin? I tried one small restarant but did not see any others.
I want someday to relocate to mexico and was hoping for a small town that saw few tourists. San Joaquin had a lot of interesting ruins and waterfalls etc. and could be a nice place to settle in. Any advice?
Thanks, Chris

Hello maplecorner88,

If you read Spanish, here is the official tourist site for San Joaquín, Querétaro. Looks like an interesting little place:

Though I haven't been there for about 20 years, I really enjoyed a visit to San Joaquin and always wanted to have more chance to explore more but haven't (yet?) had the opportunity to do so. There are several smallish towns and villages in Queretaro that might be good and relatively inexpensive places to live. Enjoy your explorations and sorry I can't help more, Tony

Hi Tony, yes you are quite right there are many small and nice places to live in the state of Queretaro especially San Joaquin. My kids have been to summer camps in that area. The Queretaro government is/was/trying to invest money in the tourist industry. That area attracts many european tourists. That whole sierra gorda area, los Misiones, is a place well worth visiting especially for people interested in birds, history and hiking. It would also be great to learn spanish and do social work. The area is inexpensive to live but many mexicans in the area are poor. However they are positive people. It gets really cold in winter. So I prefer Ajijic.
