: is there an easy way to determine if a one story house can support a second story ... and if it can be strengthened.<p>Consider two things: (1) do rebars from the columns stick up through the roof? and (2) will the walls on the second floor be placed exactly over the walls on the first floor (both exterior and interior walls)?<p>If both answers are Yes, you should be in good shape. If either answer is NO, you are in need of professional help.
