A/C & Ceiling Fan Questions

Can't Post |
Can anyone recommend good ceiling fan brands that run QUIET? This is for a bedroom, light sleeper. My current Encon has bearing noise, I believe they are now out of business in the US. Others in the house are cheap Copacabana, just awful, even on slow they sound like helicopters.
On A/C, I'm looking at Mitsubishi's mini-split, Mr Slim, a great warranty
(6 years) and very quiet, but I'm told I need 220 which means a new contract. Does this mean even my current electricity usage would also be charged higher?
Does anyone know of a mini-split system that uses 110 electric?....not window units, I find they are too noisy for the bedroom.

Hunter fans claim they are superior to everything else. I wouldn't know. I have always bought middle of the line Hampton Bay fans and been happy with them. Pushing air around does make noise. You can't escape some noise.
Carl Carlson

I use a cheap ceiling fan I bought at Soriana grocery store. Don't know the brand. It is very quite.
Installing a 220 volt line for your A/C is rather costly. And with the new higher electric rates, it is going to be a $$ hot summer for you and me both.
I always insist on plugging in the A/C unit in the store so I can hear it run before I buy. I have two Amana window units installed in the wall. I brought them with me from the USA; they are the quietest window units I could find.
Your post doesn’t say where you live in Mexico. Are you in a low humidity area where you could use a roof-mounted evaporation unit? That is the cheapest and quietist way to go.

A/C is going to cost you more money no matter what but the A/C motors will run more efficiently using 220 Volts and cost you less in the long run. The cost to install shouldn't be that much. Labor is inexpensive. Of course it all depends on the situation. The mini splits you are talking about fit, usually, on top of your roof. They then run the freon lines down to the remote controlled unit on your wall. They are relatively quiet. To me, if you need A/C, there is no choice. You either put up with unbearable heat or you listen to a little noise. Here in Mazatlan, in the summer, the noise factor is nothing compared to sleeping well with even a loud a/c. In Tucson, I could get by with a good fan, even in the summer.

Carl is right that Hunter claims to be the best.
They are usually the most expensive too. I had a
bunch of Hampton Bay but they were noisy and
didn't last. Now have five Hunters. Oldest is
14 years old and is only now starting to make a
little noise, a click every now and then. It's in
my bedroom and runs every summer for about six
months sometimes weeks at a time without being
turned off.
Their biggest, 52", five blade, run about US$120
and up depending on finish.
No experience with A/C.

I have a Hampton Bay remote control fan but I am having concerns with the fan and the lights operating independant of each other (the lights have to be in order for the fan to work). Of course the manual was lost in our last move, please help. Rreid70@AOL.com
: Hunter fans claim they are superior to everything else. I wouldn't know.
