What the heck is a Timbiriche???

Discovered a tastie new(to me) fruit at the market today.

It is called a Timbiriche, an odd oblong fruit with a white flesh and black seeds.
They come in bunches and they are about the size of thumb.

The lady at the market said it was from the maguey. hmmmm that seemed odd.

I googled it and all I came up with was a band by that name.

Does anyone know more about it.
It tastes quite nice raw, but perhaps there are more interesting uses people would like to share.

Todd, it is the fruit of an agave--not the blue agave that's used to make tequila, but another one. It's used a lot for medicinal purposes. I can't remember what it is alleged to cure, but it's often for sale in markets around this time of year.
