Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende....in May?

Can't Post | Private Reply
We need a change of scenery and are thinking of heading to Guanajuato City and SMA for a week or so, maybe 3-4 nights in each. We'd be coming from the Lake Chapala area, either driving or taking a bus.

I realize it will likely be hot and dry, just like everywhere else right now. But is it otherwise a good time to visit? I've been to GTO before, but have never been to SMA. The other half hasn't been to either.

Also, if anyone has any suggestions for moderately priced, centrally located accomodations in either that would be great.

It's hot. If anything, it's hotter and drier than the Lake Chapala area. However, these are interesting places to see. For some advice on hotels and eateries, try www.fallinginlovewithsanmiguel.com a local webboard with many suggestions. Free.

Hi,

Thanks Gringal and barbaroja. I know the weather is going to be sucky. But we're not going for the weather.....we need the diversion. For reasons I won't dull anyone with, it's a last-minute/right now/get-outta-here trip. And....on the HUGE upside....

Thanks to serendipty....and having met some wonderful people through MexConnect (!) we're about to have a fantastic weekend. We're crazy fortunate to have some things thrown our way because of people we've met through this website.

Thanks MexConnect!

We are thinking of visiting Guanajuato at the end of June, if the swine flu has abated and we are sufficiently rested from our 3 week visit to the U.S.

Guanajuato is one of our favorite cities in Mexico, although we haven't been there snce at least 2001, if I recall correctly.

Saludos,

We too are thinking of going to Guanajuato from Lake Chapala the second week of June. Sounds like a wonderful place to visit! We were there only part of a day, side trip from San Miguel, in '97, and I know the city deserves more time than that. Making a list of restaurant recommendations, thanks to everyone!
