3 weeks in colima in july

hello everyone and first of all thank you for this wonderful and helpful site

we're going to manzanillo in july with my wife (mexican) and my 3 kids and i don't want to spend the whole time in manzanillo
we have a car there so we will be driving from DF so we might stop along the way probably in tequila and guadalajara acouple of days and then to colima
and costa alegre and also comala , volcanoes etc
is it ok in july to go about and stop in hotels without reservation since it's not tourist season?
is there some "off the beaten path" places we can't miss?
any advice with the kids since it will be pretty hot i guess!!!

Fred - remember that it is Mexican tourist season at that time for the very reason that you are travelling then - the kids are out of school.

No problem with hotels but do be looking for ones with AIR at that time of year.

Might plan on a few days in Colima city visiting Comala and volcano(views) from there. Lots of museums and nice plazas in Colima.

For the Costalegre there is Barra, Melaque and Tenacatita.

The downtown waterfront has been nicely redone in Manzanillo but the best beachs are in the Santiago area

You could get soem torrential rain storms--so be careful on the roads and know be prepared to wait out a downpour.

Try the 'Hotel San Lorenzo' in Colima. Just a couple of blocks from 'Teatro Hidalgo'. Ask for one of the rooms with
the 'clima' option (A/C) and enjoy. Simple, clean hotel with secure parking and a very short walk to downtown,
museums and restaurants. Take taxis everywhere...very economical.
